Dead whale found floating off Torrey Pines State Beach

TORREY PINES, Calif. — A dead whale was found floating off Torrey Pines State Beach early Thursday, authorities said.

The whale was first spotted about three-quarters of a mile off the beach shortly after 9:30 a.m., according to San Diego Lifeguard Services, which said it appeared to be floating for a while.

Lifeguards were in the process of contacting a marine mammal group to decide how best to handle the large carcass.
