Hillary Clinton Needs to Handover Her Email Server
(CNSNews.com) - House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) says "it's so important" for Hillary Clinton to hand over her private email server, but he appeared to leave the decision up to her.
Clinton already has said the server will remain private.
"The American people deserve all the facts about what happened in Benghazi," Boehner said at a news conference on Tuesday. "That's why it's so important for Secretary Clinton to turn over her personal server to a neutral third party. I think this is the fairest way to make sure we have all the documents that belong to the public -- and ultimately all the facts."
Is the House on a "witch-hunt"? a reporter asked. "We're not," Boehner replied.
"The way forward is for the secretary to turn over all of her emails that pertain to the public. But some neutral third party s going to have to make some decision about what documents are quote, personal, and which ones are public record.
"And so far, she's been unwilling to do this," he added.
Clinton told a news conference last week that at the request of the State Department -- two years after leaving her job as Secretary of State -- she turned over all work-related emails sent from her personal email account. She said she deleted her personal emails.
She also said the email server, set up at her home in New York, "contains personal communications from my husband and me, and I believe I have met all of my responsibilities and the server will remain private."
Even deleted emails may be recovered from the server.
As CNSNews.com reported last week, Rep. Trey Gowdy, chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, said his panel doesn't have the power to "seize a personal property" such as an email server.
"The House as a whole, that's frankly an open constitutional question as to whether the House as a whole has that legal authority," Gowdy said.
Boehner on Tuesday didn't say anything about a subpoena
